Bulgaria has Europe‘s second highest female representation amongst senior executives – 43%.
The Balkan country is second only to Lithuania that has 44%.
Mercer has revealed the ratio of senior executives and managers that were female, averages 29% in countries across Europe compared to 71% of men, HR Magazine informs.
The nine countries showing the best representation of women in senior positions are ex-communist states, as Bulgaria and Lithuania are followed by Russia (40%), Estonia and Kazakhstan (37%), Serbia (36%), Ukraine (35%) and Romania (34%).
In Western Europe, the countries with the greatest proportion of women in the executive suite amongst the sample group are Greece and Ireland (33%) followed by Sweden (30%) and Belgium (29%). Spain, UK and France all have 28% female representation.
In the Middle East, women make up 26% of the executive workforce in Turkey, 23% in Morocco, 17% in the UAE, 16% in Egypt, 7% in Qatar and in Saudi Arabia there is no noted female participation at all.
